Teens entering Grades 6-12, join us this summer for fun activities, volunteering and so much more! Teen reading records may include books read or listened to, programs participated in, or teen volunteering at programs. Enter the raffle for great prizes at the end of the summer.

Dungeons & Dragons For teens and adults

Fridays, June 14 & 28, July 12 & 26, August 9 & 23 from 5:30-8:30pm.

Embark upon imaginary adventures. A Dungeon Master serves as this role playing game's referee and storyteller. Game starts at 6:30, come early for help with character design.

Bookmark Stitch-In For all Ages

Wednesday, June 19, 10am-noon.

The Embroiderers’ Guild of America celebrates our Universe of Stories! theme with a Stitch-In. Take home an embroidered bookmark.

Teddy Bear Sleepover For all ages

Wednesday, June 19 - all day.

Bring your stuffed animal to stay overnight at the library. Pick them up the next day at Teddy Bear Story Time.

LARP (Live Action Role Play) For teens

Wednesdays June 26, July 10 & 24, August 14 & 28 from 3-5pm.

Live Action Role Play (LARP) is a DIY adventure in a mystical land. Create your own character and enter the story.

Kite Festival For all ages

Wednesday, July 3 from 4-5pm.

Let’s go fly a kite… Meet us @ Brownell Library and we’ll walk over to Summit Street fields for a kite festival. Don’t forget to bring your kite! Or join us for a Make Your Own Kite program from 3-4pm.

Friday Night Movie Night For ages 13 & up

Guardians of the Galaxy on Friday, July 5 at 6:30pm.

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on Friday, August 2 at 6:30pm.

 Alien Earth For all ages

Monday, July 15 from 5-6pm.

Learn about the prehistory of our planet and meet the survivors of bygone eras with the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum educators. There will be live animals and fossils.

Iron Cosplay For teens

Friday July 19 from 2:30-4pm.

Join us for Brownell's first ever Iron Cosplay! Teams will face off, making the best cosplay they can, using only the random stuff we provide, in 15 minutes or less! The game will occur in rounds, with challenges. Winners get bragging rights, and their creations will be displayed as part of our Universe of Stories decor!

 Mystery Word Week  For independent readers

Monday-Friday, July 22-26.

Find the Mystery Word in a book to win a free small ice cream from Sam’s Scoop Shop in Essex Junction. Word announced Monday.

 Celestial Shadow Puppets For ages 8 & up

Thursday, July 25, 2-5pm.

Make your own shadow puppets with Tina Logan and explore star stories from around the world! Puppet making will start at 2pm, participants can stay for an optional performance of their shadow-puppet star-story, starting at 4pm.

Star Trek Movie Marathon For teens and adults

Wednesday, July 31 all day.

VINS Planetarium For ages 6 & up

Thursday, August 1 from 2-4pm at Memorial Hall in Essex.

Please register online. Climb into a Star Lab and journey through the stars and experience the night sky.

Create Your Own Comic For ages 9 & up

August 2, 3-5pm.

Create your own science fiction/fantasy comic and learn about the process of comic making with local artist Stephanie Zuppo.


Volunteer Opportunities!

For teens entering 6th grade and up

Help us document stuffed animal shenanigans and stay for ice cream.

Astronaut Training Camp - Friday, June 21 from 4-5pm.

Help kids go through a series of physical challenges.
