1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Brownell Library is proud to promote 1,000 Books Before Kindergarden. This nonprofit foundation encourages caregivers to read 1,000 books with their child before they enter kindergarten. Reading together in this way increases early literacy skills, prepares children for school, and provides a bonding experience for caregivers and children.
Participation is simple:
- Register your child at the Youth Desk to get a reading log for your first 100 books. When you and your child finish 100 books, bring the completed log to the desk. A librarian will sign it and give you a log for the next 100 books. Your child will also be given a paper train car to track their progress. This process is repeated until you reach the 1,000 book goal.
- Every 200 books, your child will receive a free book from the library book sale.
We hope to see you take the challenge. Happy reading!
