1000 Books Before Kindergarten
Brownell Library is proud to promote 1000 Books Before Kindergarden. This nonprofit foundation encourages caregivers to read 1000 books with their child before they enter kindergarten. Reading together in this way increases early literacy skills, prepares children for school, and provides a bonding experience for caregivers and children.
Participation is simple:
- When you and your child finish 100 books, stop by the youth desk, call or email us and let us know. We will update our records and make the next reading log (as well as a paper train car) available at the desk or in curbside, whichever you prefer. This process will be repeated until you reach the 1000 books goal. At that time, your child will have a complete train to display at home, 1000 books under their belt, a free book from our perpetual book sale shelves, and a certificate of completion.
- Every 200 books, your child will receive a free book from the library book sale.
