Summer Reading

UNEARTH A STORY during Brownell Library’s 2026 Summer Reading Program! This summer we’re going prehistoric with a lineup of programs all about dinosaurs, paleontology, the past, and chances for youth of all ages to share their own stories. This year’s festivities kick off with a roar on June 24th, when Dinoman fills the Main Reading Room with giant dinosaurs, wild science facts, and lots of laughter at our annual Summer Reading Kick-Off — and they extend through mid-August with a variety of programs that bring youth and families together. Be sure to check out our Summer Reading Brochures (linked below Digby the Dino) and our Events Calendar for a full list of programs and descriptions.

Children and teens can register for the 2026 Summer Reading Program starting June 15th. Once you register, stop by the youth circulation desk to pick up your summer reading materials, including a reading log, or download a reading log (linked below Digby the Dino).

All registered participants are eligible to win raffle prizes, which include a $50 Amazon gift card and prizes from local businesses. Starting June 24th, children and teens will receive a raffle ticket or a small prize from the treasure box every time they show us an updated reading log – no matter if they’ve read one new book since their last visit, or 100. Read-alouds, audio books, graphic novels, magazines all count towards summer reading! Registered teens will also receive raffle tickets every time they attend a program or volunteer at the library. Can’t make it in? You can still report books and enter raffle drawings using the link below Digby the Dino. Adults can also participate starting in July by picking up a Summer Reading Passport at the library for their own chances to win library swag.

  • Everyone who participates in our summer reading program is invited to our Summer Celebration with the No Strings Marionettes on Friday, August 7th from 5:30-7pm in the Main Reading Room. This year, astronaut Nick Eastman and his hoverbot Glitch travel from the dinosaur-riddled past to a bizarre future. We will announce the winners of our children’s raffle during the Summer Reading Celebration.
  • All teens who participate — by reading, attending programs, or volunteering — are invited to our Teen Summer Reading Party on Thursday, August 6th, 6-8pm! We will play hide-and-seek in the stacks, eat ice cream, and complete the teen raffle drawing.

This summer will be full of discovery, exploration, and community connection, and we can’t wait to celebrate another summer with you!

Happy Reading!
