You can either stop by or call the library and ask one of the librarians to renew your book or you can do it online from your account in the library catalog. Once you have logged into your account you will see a list of all the items you have checked out. If they are able to be renewed you can check the renew box next to the item then hit the renew button. If the item is on hold it may not be able to be renewed.
Children aged 8 and under must be accompanied in the library by a responsible adult or caregiver. Many of our programs can be fun to parents and children to share together!
Yes! Brownell is part of the Homecard system. Anyone with a Brownell Library card can borrow items from any of the Homecard library. The full list of libraries and more information can be found on the Homecard page.
If you live in the Village of Essex Junction you can get a library card at Brownell. If you live in the town of Essex outside of the village you can get a card at the Essex Free Library. Once you have a card from Essex Free you can use it to check out materials at Brownell Library. If you are not sure if you live in the Village or the Town outside the Village this Street List includes all the streets in the Village. If your street is not listed you live in the Town outside the Village.

Yes. We have free wifi available throughout the building.
If you have art you would like to display in the Kolvoord room or a collection you would like to display in our glass display case call or stop by the library to fill out an interest form. The Kolvoord room art display space can book up many months in advance.
You can either call the library and a librarian can look up to see if we have a book or you can use our online catalog. In the catalog you can search by title, author, or subject. If the library owns the book it will be listed. Click the title of the book to find out more information such as if is it currently checked out or if it is on the shelf.
To log into your online account click the Your Library Account button at the top of the page. It will take you to the account log-in page. Your username will be your library card number. The password will be your last name. Once you are logged into your account you can change the password to something that will work for you. If you have any trouble logging in just stop by or call the library for help.
The Kolvoord Community Room is available for community and non-profit groups to use. To reserve the room you must come to the library in person to fill out the reservation form. There is also a $10 deposit to reserve the room which will be returned after the event.
You can get email or text notifications from the library when items are coming due or when an item is ready for you at the library. You can either stop by the library or call to have these notifications set up or changed or you can go to your online account to set it up. In your account there is a tab on the left of the screen that says Your Messaging. From there you can put in your cell phone number and specify what notifications you would like to get.
If you live in the Village of Essex Junction then all you need to get a library card at Brownell Library is to stop by the library with a form of identification and proof of address. A utility bill is a great way to show proof of address.
